Keeping creativity alive this summer!
1: Start a new sketchbook (small is easy to travel with!)
you can find sketchbook prompts and monthly drawing challenges below
2. Create a work of art after a life event as a way to record a memory (sporting event, birthday, vacation, etc.)
3. Draw or paint a still life. This can be done anywhere! (using personal objects, at a restaurant, out in nature, etc.)
4. Make an artwork for relatives or friends
5. Experiment with new materials (bought or found!)
6. Submit artworks to contests. Organizations that often have pop-up contests are: NASA, Scholastic Art and Writing, Doodle for Google, and so many others.
"We're coming home!"- our portfolios
All student portfolios (grades k-5) will be sent home on Field Day, May 31st.
The portfolios will be returned to home classrooms (by me) and individually carried outside (by students) during dismissal on the 31st.
They will be sealed and school bus ready :)
*If there is rain delay for the event, I will follow that decision and send portfolios home on the makeup day, June 3rd.
Fifth Grade Families:
Back in Oct./Nov. your students created portraits of veterans from our SES community. The veteran portraits have been returned to the families of those veterans; they were thrilled to receive them!
However, many students expressed interest in somehow getting to take their artworks home to show their own families. I made copies of each portrait thanks to the digital scans done by Mr. Lawrence. The copies of the artworks made by each student will go into their portfolios.
Because of the Rabbit
A big thanks to a few early finishers in Ms. Driscoll's 5th grade class for helping to celebrate our school-wide book. All creative choices were completely their own. They were the true definition of the "dream team".
The banner is displayed on the library glass. If you come to visit SES stop by and check it out!
Just a few of the helping hands at work!
"Beads of knowledge" (to be continued!)
As a school we have filled up 4 jars!
Each bead represents something we have learned in art class. Questions are asked at the end of every class and beads are added for correct answers. Plus... Miss Lasto draws in a new jar when we fill one:) )
Sing-Along Snowflakes
Students across all grade levels worked together to make individual snowflake branches. It takes 6 branches to make one snowflake... that's over 216 total branches! Teamwork really does makes the dreamwork. Special thanks to the art room volunteers for linking the snowflakes together, and to Mrs. Cooney for all her hard work in creating the sing-along magic!
*Attention Grade 4:
The still life objects collected by Miss Lasto will be sent back home the weeks following winter break.
Complete! Fifth grade
creating 45 veteran portraits from our school community!
*the Portrait will be returned to veteran families in the upcoming weeks.
