Google Workspace Application

Google Workspace is an incredible tool that makes the digital world more accessible, engaging, and feasible to students. In an increasingly technologically literate world, it is important to prepare our students for future careers and further education. Throughout this section, I have included several examples of how Google Workspace can be integrated into an early elementary classroom, specifically for a second grade math lesson. The buttons below will link to the various assignments that use Google Sheets, Google Slides, and Google Draw. These lessons are aligned to NJ State Math Standards and Universal Design for Learning.

New Jersey State Standards

NJSLS: 2.NBT.A. Understanding place value

Understand that the three digits of a three-digit number represent amounts of hundreds, tens, and ones; e.g., 706 equals 7 hundreds, 0 tens, and 6 ones. Understand the following as special cases:
- 100 can be thought of as a bundle of ten tens — called a “hundred.”
- The numbers 100, 200, 300, 400, 500, 600, 700, 800, 900 refer to one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, or nine hundreds (and 0 tens and 0 ones).
Count within 1000; skip-count by 5s, 10s, and 100s.
Read and write numbers to 1000 using base-ten numerals, number names, and expanded form.
Compare two three-digit numbers based on meanings of the hundreds, tens, and ones digits, using >, =, and < symbols to record the results of comparisons.

Assistive Technology & Differentiation

When working with students that receive Special Services through their IEPs or students that receive English Second Language support, it is important to provide them the resources, accommodations, and other services that help them reach their potential and beyond.

In this lesson, I provided visuals for all students. I integrated the visuals as a resource to provide reinforcement of expectations, supplies needed, and other instructions that were given verbally.
