Reflection

Creating my e-portfolio has been very enlightening and fascinating. As I put together this assessment I have realized that since high school I have learned new skills and have improved on skills that I already possessed. I have always been dedicated and disciplined in my academics and this has helped me achieve certain academic standards. The initial goals that I had when starting this website were to improve my ability to use online tools and to reflect on my skills.

As a diagnostic radiography student, I am constantly educated on delivering patient-centered care while developing my strengths and competencies. From my first year, we are trained to develop skills and knowledge that will assist us in working in a healthcare environment. The goal I had set for myself was to excel in a clinical practice setting. This includes being aware of my strengths, skills, and weakness and knowing how or when to use them. One of the competencies that I acquired quickly in my first year was the application and demonstration of theoretical knowledge and skills in clinical practice and this led to being awarded the best first-year student.

I have encountered a diverse range of situations both in clinical practice and at university that have improved my skills. For instance, I have learned how to work in a team and be a team player. The diagnostic radiography course has numerous assessments that are group work and this has allowed me to interact with other students and helped me to apply my strengths in a group. Even in clinical practice, we always work in a group or team to deliver patient-centered care. I have also been in situations where I had to take decisions and demonstrate leadership skills.

I am still working on improving my communication skills, leadership skills, and improve my ability to listen to others' opinions and my ability to take constructive criticism. I have set long-term goals to improve these by keeping an open mind when communicating with others and taking constructive criticism as it is. Furthermore, I have taken an initiative of attending webinars that offered by both University of Johannesburg and Golden Key International Honour society to improve my leadership skills.

Overall, this assessment has improved greatly my skills to use online tools and creating online documents. I have learned a lot since my high school years and I still have a lot to learn and to improve my skills as a student and soon to be a qualified diagnostic radiographer.
