PASS THE BEAT AROUND THE ROOM

Objective: The objective of Pass The Beat is to keep the rhythm of the song going without missing a beat.

How To Play

Step One: Students form a circle.

Step Two: Pass The Beat is played with the phrase, 'pass the beat a-round the room'. Explain that you will be passing the beat around the room either clockwise or anti-clockwise. Each student must say a syllable (note, a-round = 2 syllables so is said over 2 beats across 2 students)

Step Three: Choose one student to start. Each time the teacher claps, the next student must say the next syllable in the phrase. For example, on the first beat the first student says 'pass'. On the second beat, the next student says 'the' and so on around the circle.

Step Four: If a student misses the beat they must sit down in the circle. This student then becomes a 'rest'. Students now have to skip the word the student sitting down should say, replacing them with a beat of silence. Eg: 'pass the _____ a-round _____ room' where 'beat' and 'the' are students who were sitting down. The final student standing is the champion however I rarely find that the game ends.

THE SONG GAME

INSTRUCTIONS

- 4 teams

- each team has a piece of paper to write answers on

- TEACHER selects ONE word and writes it on the board (Suggestions: wanna, love, baby, night, sun)

- Give the students 10-15 minutes (depending on time) for their teams to come up with as many songs as possible that feature this word in the lyrics.

- After the time is up, go around each group to say 1 song at a time off their list - the song only counts if a team member can sing the section of the song featuring the word (this will take 10-15 min)

- All other teams cross this song off their list - if a team mentions a song already said they're out (LISTEN AND PAY ATTENTION)

- When a team runs out of unique songs to mention, they lose

- Keep playing until there is one team standing

RULES

- The word must be in the lyrics (if it's only in the title, doesn't count)

- If your song has already been said, you lose

- The song only counts if a team member can sing the section of the song that features the chosen word.

- Each team takes turns in nominating a person to 'perform' a song

- Nominated person must sing the tune of a song of their choice but using the words of the handout rather than the lyrics; their team members must correctly guess the song to score a point.

- Teams take turns guessing their team member's songs

- Play for three rounds or until you run out of time :)

- Drawers must communicate the name of the song to their teams by drawing on the board. No letters or numbers are permitted.

- First team to guess the song correctly wins the round

- Play for three rounds or until you run out of time :)
