The public perception of Miss America program is often that it’s a one-night event, but in reality it’s so much more. This unique opportunity is a year-round program of “Style, Service, Scholarship and Success” – representing the four points of the Miss America and Miss America’s Teen crowns. Participants acquire lifelong skills, meet other like-minded women, cultivate their own personal style, and engage within their communities.

Core mission

The program awards academic and community-based scholarships to contestants at local, state, and national levels, funding studies in medicine, business, STEM, arts, and social impact initiatives. It transforms participants into leaders by combining scholarship opportunities with platforms for personal growth and advocacy.

Historical impact

Since 1945, the organization has distributed over $150 million in scholarships, evolving from a pageant into a year round empowerment platform focused on education over appearance. Local programs like Miss Scott County feed into this system, providing preliminary scholarships and pathways to higher awards.
