In English: THE VERB CHANGES THE PREPOSITION. The preposition words change depending on whether you are in (I live in Dorking) or going to (I travel to Dorking) a place

In French: THE VERB DOES NOT CHANGE THE PREPOSITION. The same preposition word is used whether you are in a place (J'habite à Dorking) or going to a place (Je vais à Dorking)

In English: THE PLACE DOES NOT CHANGE THE PREPOSITION. The same preposition word (either in (a) or to)) is used regardless of the place which follows it.

In French: THE PLACE CHANGES THE PREPOSITION. The preposition words change depending on the gender, number and type of place following (à / au / à l' / aux / en / dans le / dans la / dans l' / dans un / dans une /sur)
