Process
How to get it done.
- Before you can write your own poem, you will need to read examples of other poems to get some idea of how to structure your own
- Click the "Resources" tab to find poem examples, and read at least two lyric poems, and two narrative poems.
- After reading your four poems, write down the title of each poem and three to four sentences about why you liked or disliked that particular poem on a separate sheet of paper.
- Now it is time to start brainstorming what kind of poem you want to write.
- Open the "Resources" tab again to find the Narrative vs. Lyric Poetry video, and watch to find the difference between lyric poems and narrative poems.
- After viewing, choose one style of poetry for your poem.
- Once you have your style of poetry in mind, it is time to find your topic.
- Use the link under "FIND YOUR TOPIC" to peruse possible topics.
- Jot down ideas on that same separate sheet of paper, list at least five different possible topics.
- After you have found your topic, you are ready to structure your poem. Draft as many version of your poem as you would like, either on paper or on a Google Doc. Note: You do not have to turn in the drafts of your poem.
- Lyric poem length: At least three stanzas
- Narrative poem length: At least 150 words
- Once you have finished your poem, you must fill out the following poetic elements as they pertain to your specific poem at the bottom of your poem document.
