Planning and preparation are mandatory for teachers to be performing on a routine basis. You need to know about your students and their capabilities to be able to teach them based on standards with reasonable goals that they can achieve. Students need instruction that relates to them to get them to achieve their goals with formal and informal assessments.
Before going to school to do my lessons for the day, I make sure that I have reviewed what the lesson is about and what skills I should show my students or review with them. I make sure in advance I know and understand the content for my students to be able to teach them to the best of my abilities. Looking at the plan for my students whether it is one on one, small group, or whole group it is good to be prepared for the errors they might make, so you can try to prevent them through strategies.
At the beginning of the year, I find it to be fundamental for students to get to know more about the classroom and the people inside of it. We did this project in third grade when they had a paper bag they had to fill with small items to share with the class. They had to bring in or draw a picture of them as a baby, their family, something they play with, their favorite food, and something special to them. Having them present their Me bags to the class made them comfortable with new people while getting to know them.
I find that using "I can" statements can allow for students of all levels ina. room know a baseline of what they are going to be learning for the day or the lesson. This is a good way to provide what the outcome will be before they even dive into a lesson. This is my favorite way for my students to get familiar with what they are going to do and the outcome of doing so.
I like to look at the materials that my mentor gives me access to resources I can use that the grade group teacher collaborates with. I use these materials to help to scaffold my students for that to understand what standard we are working toward. I also like to change the materials given to me and find my own because I know what the class can handle and what they can't. When using resources it is key to adapt them to your students and their individual needs. Having resources makes it easier to differentiate them for your students.
When planning and curating a lesson plan for students in your classroom, it is key to make sure you differentiate any lesson or activity for the students in your room. If you are using a pre-made lesson you have to make you differentiate for your students because whoever made the lesson doesn't know your student like you do when you are their teacher.
When I create any type of assessment for a lesson, I make sure that I have an age-appropriate standard or a standard that works toward their expected goal. I base the standard on the objective and the activities for the lesson when I make an appropriate assessment that would be suited for all my students.
