Media literacy is important as we are surrounded my medias such as advertisements, social media posts, YoutTube videos, Tiktoks and News paper articles on a daily basis. Therefore in this lesson you will critically think about the information you see online.
what is media literacy?
Media literacy is the ability to analyze, evaluate and create media in different forms, such as newspapers, magazines, advertisements and social media posts. This helps to differentiate between opinions, misleading information, facts and biased information.
How to spot if information is fake or biased.
Use the SIFT method.
Stop, do not rush to believe or share what you found online.
Investigate, check if the source is reliable.
Find trusted coverage, see if other credible and valid sites are reporting the same thing.
Trace, go back to the original source if it is possible.
you may also spot it by too much emotional language and many spelling and grammar mistakes.
Importance of Media Literacy.
Media literacy will help you to avoid being easily tricked by fake information, protects you from propaganda and scams, helps you understand different points of view and lastly it helps you make informed decisions based on facts not opinions.
