Why is reading so important for children?
It is important because it helps their young minds develop and expand. Reading expands children's vocabulary and deepens their understanding of vocabulary. Children can learn moral lessons through reading. Children can learn anything by reading. Reading helps keep the mind healthy and sharp. Reading also helps improve memory function.
Why is good literature important?
Good literature is important because we want our children to read wholesome, meaningful and books with correct information. It is important children read books that are of the appropriate age level. Good literature can teach children SO much about anything they want to learn about.
My students will be required to read 20 minutes every school night. Parent signatures will be required every week to sign off in their child's reading notebook that the child has read every night. By the end of the year, my students will have independently read (at the least) 3,600 minutes! Isn't that awesome?
