Welcome to the website of the Misericordia University chapter of the American Association of University Professors (the AAUP). The MU AAUP is an advocacy chapter (not a collective bargaining unit). Through the AAUP's affiliation with the American Federation of Teachers, AFL-CIO, our chapter members are also members of AAUP Advocacy Local 6741 of the AFT, comprised of more than 10,000 active and retired higher education faculty.
Misericordia University is a Catholic university in Northeast Pennsylvania, founded in 1924 by the Religious Sisters of Mercy. MU has 2,235 students (total enrollment) and 119 full time faculty members. Its 127 acre campus is located in Dallas.
The MU AAUP supports the policies and goals of the AAUP as set forth in Article I of the AAUP constitution. Its mission is to:
Defend academic freedom at Misericordia University and throughout academe;
Encourage faculty participation in governance at Misericordia University;
Protect and advance the professional status and interests of all faculty;
Facilitate the dissemination of information on higher education principles and practices;
Inform the academic community about AAUP standards and policy statements;
Develop necessary and proper chapter programs for the accomplishment of the aforementioned purposes.
