Did you know that mirrors play an important role in the functioning of items we use in our daily lives? Example, the torchlight!
Torchlights
Concave mirrors are used in torchlights to focus light rays to create an intense beam. When the bulb is placed at the focal point of the mirror ,concave mirrors in the torchlight ensure that the light given off is channeled and intensified resulting in brighter light being shone.
This focused beam allows users to illuminate pinpointed areas with more clarity and brightness. Concave mirrors in the torchlight enables the light to be projected across vast distances with minimal dispersion , therefore the light intensity remains strong even at extended ranges. (Bt,2024)
Another more common use of mirrors is the rear-view mirrors and the side-view mirrors of a car.

Mirrors in a Car
Did you know convex mirrors are used as the rear-view and the side-view mirrors in a car? If flat mirrors were to be used as the rear-view mirror or the side-view mirror, they would offer a limited field of view hence making it difficult to see a wide area behind the vehicle.
Therefore, convex mirrors are used to allow the driver to see a broader view of the vehicles behind. However , a disadvantage of the convex mirror is that it exaggerates the distance between the vehicles. (Mammoth Memory,n.d)
Mirrors used to enhance space in homes
Mirrors make rooms look bigger by reflecting light and creating the illusion of depth and space. They bounce natural and artificial light around the room, making it feel brighter and more open. By visually duplicating parts of the room, mirrors trick the eye into seeing a larger area.
When placed strategically, such as opposite windows or in narrow spaces, they enhance both light and perspective, giving the impression of a more spacious and airy environment. (RmcaD, 2025)
