In complement to my academic and research experiences I have worked as an environmental professional.
As an environmental consultant, I have extensive experience performing wildlife surveys and monitoring in conjunction with development activities. My experience includes conducting wildlife surveys, nest sweeps, amphibians salvage and translocation, water quality monitoring, and sensitive species inventory. This work is done in accordance with provincial and federal regulations and with the Code of Ethics for Registered Professional Biologists in Alberta and British Columbia.
The use of technology is important to achieving professional success and conducting good science. I am a certified drone pilot in Canada and have used unmanned aerial vehicles to conduct site assessments, wildlife monitoring, and to create high-resolution orthomosaic maps. I hold a graduate certificate in GIS and spatial analysis and use GIS software professionally for desktop analyses and the generation of maps. As part of my M.S. work I hold a certificate for sound recording and analysis from the Cornell Lab of Ornithology. I am proficient in the use of autonomous recording units and analysis of recorded sounds.
Safety in the field is critical. I have completed safety training courses for construction safety, hazardous goods, equipment operation, driving, and swift-water rescue. I have also completed courses in non-violent crisis intervention and first aid. My commitment to safety includes absolute adherence to zero-tolerance policies regarding harassment, violence, and discrimination.
