About Me
I am a Doctoral Candidate in the Department of Sociology at University of Michigan-Ann Arbor.
I am interested in historical and contemporary analyses of Black women's negotiation of discrimination in institutions like education. My current research focuses on African-American mothers' deployment of public identities in their parental involvement strategies, and the multiple consciousnesses that inform their assessment of interactions with school personnel. I apply Black Feminist methodological and analytical tools to interrogate "representations" of Black mothers and the way Black women construct their own counter-representations through action and interaction.
