Students are expected to use and respect the proper etiquette of the martial arts gym. Manners and discipline are a large part of the martial arts experience.
Training and learning - never tire of learning. Understand that a student of life can learn anywhere, anytime, from anyone - many times from those of a lower rank or status.
Bow - Bowing is a form of respect given to others and a recognition of willingness to learn. Students bow before entering the training area.
Country - When a flag exists in the martial arts gym, students bow to the flag before entering/leaving the training area.
Black Belts/Other Students - Bow to higher ranks before asking a question in a formal setting (e.g. testing)
Remove shoes before stepping onto training area (wear socks on wrestling mats)
No food/drink/gum on the mat (water ok)
Swearing of use of profanity is not allowed
Always address others with respect
Help keep the gym clean
Talking or disruptive behavior is not allowed (including spectators)
If you arrive late to class, ask the instructor for permission before entering the mat
No unauthorized sparring is permitted - must have supervision and permission
No unauthorized demonstration of Taekwondo training outside of the gym without approval from instructors/guardians
Ask for permission before leaving the training area
The five tenets of Taekwondo serve as a guide, or a set of rules, for all students of the art. Students need to learn and be able to understand each tenet, as the information will be on their written black belt test.
