My name is Minh Nguyen, a Ph.D. student at ATHENA project, Alpen-Adria-Universität Klagenfurt (AAU) in Austria.
I received a bachelor’s degree in Electronics and Telecommunications (Talent Program) from Hanoi University of Science and Technology (HUST), Vietnam in 2018. Before becoming a Ph.D. student, I had spent nearly three years doing research and developing novel methods for the purpose of improving the users’ Quality of Experience (QoE) in Adaptive Video Streaming over HTTP. My focus was to efficiently utilize prominent features of HTTP/2 to enhance video quality and before graduating from HUST, I proposed a novel algorithm for delivering Virtual Reality videos to tackle their high bandwidth requirement by using Server push, Priority, and Termination features of HTTP/2. Moreover, my analysis, synthesis, and programming skills were enhanced significantly because of the survey and evaluation of many scientific papers.
In terms of international work experience, I had chances to take part in many internships in Singapore, South Korea, and China. In these periods, my communication and teamwork skills became considerable when I collaborated with international students and professors.
Three years into research, I had been reading many interesting papers of Prof. Christian and his colleagues and I hoped that one day I could work under his supervision to continue my research. Fortunately, I found a recruitment for a Ph.D. student working on content consumption on his blogspot. That was a big chance for me to make my dream come true as this position perfectly matches my ability and experience in video streaming. After two intensive interview rounds, I made it. I was overjoyed at the acceptance letter from Prof. Christian.
Currently, I am focusing on addressing the tradeoff between content, timing, and quality as well as leveraging the support of future network paradigms to optimize the performance.
