About
My name is Mingdong He (何明东). I am a PhD student at The University of Oxford (Numerical Analysis Group) starting in 2023 fall. Previously, I finished my master's study of Part III of the Mathematical Tripos at The University of Cambridge from 2022-2023. I obtained my bachelor's degree at the University of Nottingham and the University of Nottingham Ningbo China.
I am really into the beauty of numerical analysis, which is rigorous and convincing. Functional analytic thinking plays a role in this field and my job is to work between the infinite-dimensional spaces and the finite-dimensional spaces. The Finite element method is one of the numerical theories I love, which is a rigorous, extensive and valuable theory and I am intended to contribute both the theory and applications in this field.
As an undergraduate from 2018-2022, I was mainly concerned with the analytic, asymptotic and numerical approaches to solving problems arising in mathematical biology and fluid dynamics. When I was in Cambridge, I focused on the theory of partial differential equations and fluid dynamics.
Now, my interests lie in finite element exterior calculus, structure-preserving scheme, and preconditioning of solving partial differential equations.
