Terrestrial Analogues
for Solar System studies Workshop
This workshop aims to bring together planetary scientists from all over the world including students and early career scientists in a location of great relevance and interest for planetary geologic topics –
the island of Milos in Greece.
This region has experienced young volcanism and tectonism (Mars, Venus, Pluto), has undergone atmospheric shaping of volcanic deposits, and carving into yardangs (Titan, Mars, Venus, Pluto), and has current hydrothermal and fumarolic activity (Venus, Io, exoplanets).
The conference would offer a combination of lectures, science discussions and field trips, with most of the experience centered around the field.

The Venue: Milos island
Milos (Μήλος), is a volcanic Greek island in the Aegean Sea, just north of the Sea of Crete and the southwesternmost island on the Cyclades group. Milos is known for its fantastic natural beauty, including breathtaking beaches and unique volcanic rock formations. Milos’ volcanic past is reflected on the large number of hot springs, caves, and geological formations found around the island.
In addition to its magnificent landscape and pristine beaches, the island is also known for its rich history. It is the place where the world-famous statue of the Aphrodite of Milos (Venus de Milo) was found on the 8th of April 1820 by an inhabitant of Plaka. Milos has been inhabited since the Neolithic Age (7000-2800 BC) and developed much quicker than its neighboring islands due to its hard, black, volcanic material of glass-like appearance, obsidian. It was used by the people of Milos, who specialized in making tools and weapons. The island has numerous significant archaeological sites such as the early christian catacombs, the Bronze Age settlement of Phylakopi, and interesting museums namely the Mining Museum showcasing Milos’ 11.000 years old mineral history.
Known as the "Island of Colors" thanks to its jewel-colored waters and building painted in vivid primary tones, the horseshoe-shaped island of Milos floats serenely in the Aegean Sea.
