The following history of Mill Creek Primitive Baptist Church was provided by Dormas Crews which was handed down to him by Josh Carroll, Winnie Rowe, and Isham and Gussie Crews.
Mill Creek Primitive Baptist Church was an active church for over 100 years and served as a pillar to the community. Originally, the church was located on the banks of Mill Creek just south of the William and Winnie Rowe homestead. The original structure was a log house constructed by Elder John Knight, I.K. Crews, Peter Rowe, Joshua Crews, John Washington Crews and a Mr. Greene. Unfortunately, shortly after construction, Mill Creek flooded its banks and it was decided that the church would need to be moved. The members of the church were blessed to receive a donation of 5 acres by a Mr. Goodbread and 2 acres by a Mr. Wingate. This 7 acres was capable of holding the church as well a cemetery that now holds the remains of many generations of our loved ones. The log church was disassembled and rebuilt on the new property with the front door being where I.K. Crews’s grave is now. Eventually, when the need arose, a new church was built in its current location. In later years, the church was blessed to have Leon Carroll donate an additional 2 acres which allowed more space for the cemetery. No longer having a minister to serve the church, its members, who were descendants of the original charter members disbanded in 1987.
