My Cancer Story
CHEO
The Children's Hospital of Eastern Ontario (CHEO) was my home away from home during cancer treatment. Being there almost daily made the staff there basically part of my family. But with that experience came lots of ways to give back, such as the big annual CHEO Telethons. Here is the official story done on me, as well as my interview during the 2020 and 2021 Telethons.
Make-A-Wish
By having gone through cancer treatment, I had the opportunity to get a wish granted by the Make-A-Wish Foundation (which I used to get an adorable puppy). From seeing my CHEO videos though, I ended up becoming an official ambassador for the organization. I gave interviews on the news, presentations for schools, and fundraiser promo videos/guest speaker talks.
Personal Blog
Ever since the beginning of my treatment, I wanted to find a way to document my journey and keep others up to date with my progress. That is how I started my Instagram blog page to share those stories of what hospital life and going through cancer treatment as a teenager are actually like. You can check out all 56 posts from the beginning of treatment until the final bell ringing here.
Other Talks
Outside of hospital-related speaking opportunities, I've done a few other talks to share my story with a wide audience. The first was a talk at the Kiwanis Next Gen Charter Night on the importance of volunteering where I shared the impact volunteers had on me through treatment. The other talk was for Impact Hub Ottawa on "Why I'm Grateful for my Cancer Diagnosis."
X Marks the Spot
A Journey to "X, the moonshot factory"
My dream job as a kid was to be a baseball player. But as I've learned a lot more about emerging technologies and developed my interest in solving problems, I now would say my dream job is to work at "X, the moonshot factory," a company focused solely on using new technologies to solve some of the biggest problems in the world. This series, "X Marks the Spot," began as I left home for university to document that journey through daily vlogs. While it did only last a month before I stopped making them, I'm happy I committed to that process and tried it out.
