I am a Professor of Operations Management at the SNU Business School of Seoul National University. Before SNU, I served as an Assistant and Associate Professor at the Gies College of Business, University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. I received my Ph.D. and M.S. from Northwestern University and B.S. from Yonsei University.
My research lives in the convex hull of operations, markets, and society. Operations is my home. I ask how firms and managers should make decisions and execute. Markets are the strategic environment in which those decisions play out. Society is the broader context. Who else is affected, and what are the consequences beyond the firm's bottom line.
This naturally leads me to sustainable and socially responsible operations: energy and environmental systems, food and natural resources, and supply chain equity and governance. I draw on analytical modeling including optimization, game theory, and machine learning, with an emphasis on policy design implications, and increasingly on empirical methods.
