I am passionate about science communication because I believe that the best way to inspire the next generation of scientific leaders is by talking about science in a way that people can understand and relate to. A scientist is often judged by their ability to convey their ideas clearly, and I strive to make complex scientific concepts accessible and engaging. Through effective communication, I aim to foster curiosity, promote informed decision-making, and empower others to take action on important environmental issues.
As a 2025 cohort participant participate in the Shared.Futures ArtScience program—a collaborative experience that brought together scientists and artists to reimagine how we communicate complex challenges like climate change.
I was paired with the incredibly talented artist Amanda Dannae Romero. Together, we created an immersive installation that invited people to step inside the Rio Grande—rather than look at it from above.
Using layered fabric and video projections of the river, we built a space where visitors could move beneath an interactive sculpture and imagine themselves as part of the river system, not separate from it. Our hope was to slow people down, spark curiosity, and encourage a deeper connection with natural systems like the Rio Grande.
As a scientist studying carbon dynamics in river floodplains, this experience pushed me to think differently about how we communicate science—and how art can help us tell more human, more connected stories about the environment.
Grateful to the Shared.Futures team and to Amanda for such a thoughtful, creative collaboration.

I led local hikes to engage with community members and discuss environmental issues in a relatable, place-based way. These hikes are a key part of my outreach efforts with ReThink Energy Florida, where we work to raise awareness about climate change and inspire sustainable practices among local communities.
I wrote an op-ed for the Tallahassee Democrat, which was also published in the Tampa Bay Times, addressing the concept of climate doomism. Through this piece, I aimed to challenge defeatist narratives around climate change and promote a more hopeful, action-oriented perspective for the future.
I am always open to new opportunities for collaboration, particularly in the fields of geology, environmental science, and carbon dynamics. Whether you're working on a research project, outreach initiative, or creative endeavor, I would love to explore how we can combine our efforts to address environmental challenges and make a positive impact. Feel free to reach out if you're interested in partnering on scientific or creative projects.
