About the Conference

Academic publishing is at a pivotal juncture, undergoing rapid and metamorphic change spurred by evolving science policies, innovative business models, advancing technologies, and a growing emphasis on transparency and reproducibility. Among these transformative forces, artificial intelligence (AI) technologies, particularly Generative AI capable of producing various forms of content including text, imagery, audio and synthetic data, present new challenges for stakeholders across the knowledge creation ecosystem.

Throughout history, libraries have been the vital pillars in the process of knowledge creation, dissemination, distribution, access, availability, and archiving for future generations. Libraries contribute value in manifold ways at each stage of the knowledge lifecycle, from communication and curation to conservation. As technology has advanced, libraries have continually adapted and expanded their roles to meet the evolving needs of academia and society. From the advent of printing to the rise of computing, communication technologies, and now artificial intelligence (AI), libraries have embraced innovation to enrich the academic communication landscape in profound ways.

AI technologies represent more than just another step forward; they are game changers. Therefore, it is imperative for the Library and Information Science (LIS) Profession to engage in discussions regarding the impact of AI on academic publishing and the appropriate responses of libraries to this evolving landscape.

MILAN (Mysore University Information and Library Alumni Network) and the Department of Studies in Library and Information Science of the University of Mysore are proud to announce a two-day national conference scheduled for June 2024. This conference aims to delve into the critical issues and challenges posed by artificial intelligence (AI) in academic publishing and assess the profession's readiness to address them.

The conference will provide a platform for scholars, practitioners, researchers, and stakeholders from the field of library and information science to engage in meaningful discussions, share insights, and explore potential strategies for steering the evolving landscape of academic publishing in the era of AI.

Through keynotes, panel discussions, and paper presentations, participants will have the opportunity to examine the transformative impact of AI technologies on scholarly communications and library services. Additionally, the conference will facilitate dialogue on ethical considerations, legal implications, and best practices associated with the integration of AI in academic publishing workflows.

By fostering collaboration and knowledge exchange, this conference aims to empower the LIS professionals to effectively harness the potential of AI while addressing the challenges and ensuring the integrity and accessibility of scholarly information for the benefit of the global academic community.
