In this assignment I was tasked to find two articles about cybersecurity risks. In these articles, I needed to identify who was affected, what had happened, and how this could be prevented in the future for each other the issues. Additionally, I had to complete a mini-lesson on cybersecurity to receive a certification detailing my completion of this mini course.
In this first article, author Amber Bouman describes the FBI warnings to internet users on phishing websites disguising themselves as legit pdf converter sites. According to the article, almost 6,000 users may have been affected on one site, meaning even more could have been affected with similar phishing sites. By clicking on a captcha, these sites manage to invite the user to download the file (which isn't their converted file) which then downloads malware to their device. This article reminds users to always use anti-virus programs while also double checking urls when going on to sites before downloading anything.
This article describes the recent ransomware attack performed on a kidney dialysis provider company called DaVita. According to the article, parts of DaVita's system became encrypted, which prompted whoever to ask the company for money in order to unencrypt these vital systems. this in turn affected almost 200,00 patients in the U.S., as the systems were relied on by 3,000 DaVita outpatient centers. In the steps taken after this ransomware attack, DaVita hired cybersecurity professionals to properly fix the issue while also contacting authorities.

My Cybersecurity Training Certificate
After this assignment, I learned how essential it is to be safe on the internet/with my cybersecurity. In the future I aim to at least pay a good amount of money for good anti-virus/anti-malware programs while also being mindful of the urls/sites I use. The reason I particularly chose the phishing article is because i have used pdf converting websites in the past for school work or actual work. Now knowing these can be dangerous, think ill be sure in the future to be more careful when it came to phishing. Even in the past I have been a victim of phishing and I definitely do not want a repeat of what had happened in the past. Additionally, after completing my cybersecurity training, I now feel more equipped to be more cautious about suspicious links on the internet and in emails.
