I'm a student learning performing arts in my second year at Gloucestershire College. I have collaborated with talented people and have been inspired to pursue a career in the performance industry. I have done plays and a musical during my time there and it has improved my confidence and made me passionate about the industry.
At a very young age, I was always acting out stories in my imagination, playing multiple characters, each heroic or sinister. Growing up, I recited scenes from my favourite film genres ranging from drama, crime, and comedy. Positive feedback from tutors and peers includes praise for showing funny facial expressions, something I find unique for comedic roles. I thrive while playing serious roles that involve dark complex characters; I enjoy working to characterize their emotions, demeanor, and tone of voice. I have had praise for my characterization, which I believe is a vital tool for an actor to possess. The projects I have starred in are evidence of my passion for acting.
Sister Act:
In my second year at Gloucester College, I took part in the musical project, Sister Act, an interpretation of the 1992 film. I played Joey, one of the main antagonists (Curtis) goons. I had to extensively learn the choreography and the lyrics in my own time. It was hard, awarding work that I'm proud of myself to have performed to the latter. Joey's character gave me an opportunity to show off my comedic skills. As the comic relief, my facial expressions and comedic timing sparked guffaws in the audience, fuelling me with absolute joy at my success in the performance.
The Last Resort:
My favourite project was Chris Owen's Last Resort, set in a beach Resort called Ferryton-on-Sea. The play tells several interwoven narratives, with diverse characters, and talking animals in funny situations. The chance to play multiple roles allowed me to develop each character with a unique personality. I played a lad eager to make a move on some girls, a surfer dude determined to conquer the waves, and a talking seagull fighting over a fish. I think of this project as one of my defining moments at the start of my career in performance. It was the spark of my passion for acting, boosting confidence, and proving to my peers and myself, that I am able to work hard in memorising my lines and collaborating in a production.
The Cherry Orchard:
Anton Chekov's Cherry Orchard was a true test of my characterization and line-reading skills. Used for, training in the Stanislavski method in portraying realism on stage. I played Gayev, brother to Charlotta, who both grew up in the cherry orchard and are content on keeping it. Playing Gayev was a challenge as I had to memorize paragraphs of dialogue. I practiced reciting my lines every day in front of the mirror, observing my facial expressions and forming a personality for Gayev. in every rehearsal, I was the only one without a script. My participation made me confident in my abilities as an actor to portray a character, with my own style of humour to add to their personality.
Acting is my passion among all subjects; I enjoy losing myself as the character and becoming fully enveloped in the scene. It allows me to express myself and engage with people around me. I'm quiet and anxious when off stage but if you put me in the center, I can be loud and courageous. I'm intrepid when taking part in challenging projects and I strive to give my best, to make them endearing and exciting to the audience.
