Mihalis Papadimitrakis

Professor

Department of Mathematics and Applied Mathematics, University of Crete

A brief summary:

Born May 1959 in Athens.

High school: Βαρβάκειος Πρότυπος Σχολή -when this really meant something. With a personal passion for euclidean geometry, algebra and physics.

Undergraduate at the University of Athens, Mathematics: September 1977 -  June 1981.

Graduate at UCLA: September 1981- March 1987. Privileged -in many ways- to have John Garnett as my PhD advisor.

UW Madison: September 1987 -  June 1990.

Washington University, St Louis: September 1990 - June 1992.

(Very important time in the United States. I had the opportunity to talk to mathematicians like Carleson, Wolff, Rudin, Varopoulos, Wainger, Baernstein. And to many other people, all serious, kind and humane. Plus many more opportunities: to learn in any context of life, to become better.)

University of Crete: September 1992 - now.

My research is in harmonic analysis and complex analysis (and convexity for some period). I like to solve problems, but I am not as effective in this as I would like to be :(

I like to teach. Probably more effective in this.

I like to read books (in general, but mostly fiction), listen to music (mostly classical and jazz and some international), watch films (mostly the old masters), look at paintings (mostly the old masters), look at people and trees and buildings, take photos.

And ... two excellent children! Very effective in this :)

Here is my CV
