2021/08– 2023/08: Chairman of the Commission on Synchrotron  and XFEL radiation of the IUCr.

2022– continues: Member of the SAC (scientific advisory council) of the Elettra synchrotron.

2013/01 - 2019/02: ALBA synchrotron scientific director.  In this position, I coordinate and supervise the user program for all techniques available at ALBA synchrotron as well as design the future scientific use of the Facility. I supervise a group of more than 80 scientists and technologists from 15 countries. ALBA synchrotron is the largest Spanish scientific infrastructure with a yearly operational budget of 24 M€ (plus the investment for new beamlines and the external funding raised).

2018/01 – 2020/12: Chairman of the ESRF Council. ESRF (European Synchrotron Radiation Facility) is the European synchrotron located in Grenoble which has a yearly operation budget of 80 M€ and it is currently engaged in an upgrade programme of 150 M€ (2015-2022), the EBS project.

2014/01 – 2017/12: vice-chairman of the ESRF Council. 

2005-2013: Spanish delegate at the ESRF Council.

2009/01 - 2019/10:  Spanish delegate at Eu-XFEL (European X-ray Free Electron Laser Facility) at Hamburg. 

2004/02 to 2007/10: Founding president of the Spanish synchrotron user association, AUSE.
