The Information Processing Laboratory carries out investigations to create "Intelligent Systems like Human-being." Our current research areas include many topics, for instance, Image Processing, Medical Engineering, Tele-Education, Soft Computing, Medical Informatics, etc. Most of our research projects are collaboration projects with domestic and international institutes and companies. We also have some research collaboration projects with local governments, all of which are Practical-problem Based Projects. We comprise some other laboratories in the Faculty of Engineering and Assoc. Prof. Hiroharu KAWANAKA is the Principal Investigator and leads our laboratory.
We are now looking for international (doctor/master course) students who are interested in our research topics, e.g., Medical/Clinical Information Systems, Dementia Evaluation Systems, Medical Image Processing, Internet of Things (IoT) for Healthcare Systems, Document Image Processing, Pattern Recognition, Image/Movie Processing, etc. If interested, please contact Associate Prof. Hiroharu Kawanaka without hesitation. You can see the details of each research project.
Basically, we can ONLY accept international students with enough scholarship(s) to live in Japan. We STRONGLY RECOMMEND getting scholarships sponsored by MEXT (Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, Japan). Of course, other private scholarships for international students are also welcome. If you have any questions, please get in touch with the lab staff without hesitation. You can also visit [this page] to see Annual Schedule, Frequently Asked Questions, and Pics from our laboratory.
We are looking forward to your application from you.

Information Processing Laboratory is now progressing many collaboration projects with not only domestic but also international universities and research institutes. Some of the graduate students stay in foreign universities/institutes for several months to progress their research projects [see photos]. All graduate students attend international conferences and workshops to present their research outcome. Some of them prepare their master thesis in English.
Information Processing laboratory has ENGLISH research progress meeting for undergraduate students, because most of them go on to Mie University Graduate School. In the meeting, we usually invite foreign professor(s) to the meeting and all students give presentations in English. This is one of English presentation programs and a good opportunity for internationalization.
