The Midwest International Economics Group (MWIEG) was founded May 1, 1982 by Raymond Riezman to foster and encourage research in International Trade. At that time, the Midwest International Trade Conference was held alongside the already running Midwest Economic Theory Conference. Over the subsequent decades, the two conferences have continued to exist side-by-side. We hold conferences twice a year, in the Fall and Spring. The International Trade conference has about 50 papers presented and roughly 75 people in attendance at each meeting. Numbers for the Theory conference are similar.
The Midwest International Trade Conference has focused on providing younger scholars an opportunity to present their research in a friendly, positive environment aimed at encouraging collaboration and cooperation. To ensure the continued existence and success of the Midwest International Trade Conference, Raymond Riezman created a Board of Directors in 2015. The inaugural board members were Scott Baier, James Lake, Georg Schaur and Yoto Yotov and the latter three remain on the board currently.
