We are very pleased to announce the appointment of our new NHSE Midlands Simulation and Immersive Learning Fellow: Dr Joshua Bachra. We were inundated with applications for the job, the vast majority of which were extremely high quality and even selecting those to interview was a struggle for the shortlisters. This demonstrates the huge interest in Simulation and Immersive learning in the region. Josh will be starting in the role in the summer.
Josh will be well known to many of you working the East Midlands, in XR development and in the SBE in psychiatry. but will let Josh introduce himself further!
"I’m currently working part-time as a psychiatry trainee and part time as an NHSE East Midlands Digital Learning Fellow. This is my second year working as a fellow and during this time I have been helping my trust develop a “digital roadmap” for how digital technologies can be used effectively and sustainably in medical education in mental health. I have also spent the last five years working as part of the core simulation faculty, designing and delivering simulation-based learning both with patient-actors and virtual patients using the AVATr software.
I have just completed my masters in medical education and have a passion for patient involvement and collaborative working – all the patient-actor scenarios I have designed and use have been extensively co-produced with experts-by-experience.
I am really excited to start in the role of Simulation and Immersive Learning Fellow. I’m looking forward to getting to know and working with all of you, as well as represent mental health in an arena where, as a speciality, we have traditionally lagged behind our physical health colleagues."

The NHSE England TEL teams project to create a nationally accredited simulation faculty development programme continues to slowly edge towards completion with the hope that the eLearning modules for the "Core" qualification will all be available very soon. An overview of the course is available here - https://www.e-lfh.org.uk/programmes/becoming-simulation-faculty/
Currently the first 4 modules are live and ready to be use on eLearning for healthcare (https://portal.e-lfh.org.uk/myElearning/Index?HierarchyId=0_55667&programmeId=55667). These core modules will be supplemented by a face-to-face workshop. The Midlands Simulation networks are working with the national team on proposals to host these workshops and how we can maximise the learning across the region. We are now in the process of identifying sites that will be able to host the pilot courses in the region - with the first scheduled for Derby at the end of April.
If there are any team members already involved in faculty development in their local organisations that wish to be involved in the pilots (as faculty), please click on the link HERE to register your interest. The first working group meetings for delivering the pilots in the Midlands will likely be held in late April/early May.
