Pelvic Health and Wellness
Pelvic Health concerns are very common and are rarely discussed. Many people suffer in silence without realizing that there are effective, evidence-based therapies available. Our pelvic floor physical therapist, Melanie Volk, wants to be part of ending this silence and help patients find the solutions to their pelvic floor symptoms.
By educating the public about pelvic health dysfunction and physical therapy, we seek to empower individuals to discover conservative interventions to improve long-term health and quality of life, regain confidence in their bodies, and reduce or eliminate symptoms around the pelvic floor.
Treatment
We focus on treating women or females assigned at birth. We’ll perform a complete evaluation to discover any musculoskeletal, neural, posture or biomechanical problems you may have. This may include an internal pelvic examination, but options will be discussed with your provider. We’ll also take a full health history, and identify specific physical limitations that may be contributing to your discomfort. We’ll then prescribe therapeutic exercises, manual therapy techniques and a home exercise program tailored specifically to you.
If you have any of the following problems, our pelvic floor physical therapy program can help:
Urinary urgency, frequency, and incontinence
Difficulty with urination
Pelvic Organ Prolapse
Pelvic Pain conditions (vaginismus, vulvodynia, interstitial cystitis, pudendal neuralgia, endometriosis, etc.)
Pain with sexual intercourse (dyspareunia) and/or sexual dysfunction
Pregnancy-related pelvic pain/symptoms and birth preparation
Postpartum recovery (including diastasis recti)
Bowel dysfunction: constipation/difficulty emptying, fecal incontinence
Pre- and Post- pelvic related surgeries
