Late 1978 Ambulance Service Starts

Erie township fireman began operation of that township’s emergency medical service ambulance at 9 p.m. yesterday, the Dec. 31 deadline by three days. After Dec. 31, Robinson Funeral Home, Oak Harbor, is discontinuing its EMS ambulance service but is continuing invalid ambulance service at its Oak Harbor and Genoa establishments.
Ronald Hess is first aid officer for the Erie Township fire department. Residents of that township are to phone the sheriff dispatcher, 734-4464, when ambulance service is needed.
Erie Fire Chief Paul Mortus said that his department will accept donations of the EMS ambulance Service
In Oak Harbor, the Mid-County EMS will be dispatched through the Oak Harbor police department, which also answers fire call in Oak Harbor and Rocky Ridge
Salem township and Oak Harbor residents requiring EMS assistance or because of fires should phone the Oak Harbor Fire Department number 898-2033. Rocky Ridge residents may receive the service by phoning 897-2424 after Jan.1
Carroll Township EMS ambulance also is ready to begin its service as soon as Robinson’s discontinues its service at midnight this Sunday. Trustee Charles Dewitz said that the Carroll Township EMS crew took its ambulance out on three trial runs today, and “everything is ready to go”
EMS staffers and other volunteers in Carroll Township this weekend are hand delivering letters to all township residents, giving instructions and listing numbers to call. Carroll Township residents who live in the Oak Harbor area should phone 898-5111 for EMS service while the few Carroll township residents who live in the Port Clinton area should phone the Sherriff’s office, 734-4404, for EMS assistance.
DeWitz said that more volunteers are needed for the EMS courses which will get underway Jan/ 4 and continue until April 2 at the Carroll Township Hall on West Toussaint Road. This course will be given from 9 a/m/ to noon on Tuesdays and Thursdays and from 7 to 10 p.m. on Mondays and Thursdays.
