This section is dedicated to my 1:72 aircraft models, built and displayed as small historical scenes.
Each model is intended to represent a specific aircraft, unit, pilot or historical context whenever reliable references are available. The focus is not only on the aircraft itself, but also on atmosphere, display, colour interpretation, modelling choices and the small story behind the subject.
The collection will grow gradually, one model at a time.

This model represents the Lockheed F-117A Nighthawk 85-0832 / HO, associated with the 8th Fighter Squadron “Black Sheep” of the 49th Fighter Wing, as displayed at Aviano Air Base during the “Ali su Aviano” Open Day on 7 July 1996.
The Aviano 1996 air show was a particularly important event for Italian aviation enthusiasts. Contemporary accounts describe it as one of the largest air shows held in Italy in those years, with more than 100 aircraft from many nations. The event is also remembered for bringing the F-117A Nighthawk to Italy in a public display context, together with other significant aircraft such as the MiG-21.
The subject chosen for this model is linked to the photographs and memories of that event. The aircraft wears the HO tail code for Holloman AFB, the 8 FS “Black Sheep” markings on the tail and the low-visibility national and unit insignia typical of operational F-117A aircraft. The black faceted surfaces were painted in a very dark grey-black finish rather than pure black, in order to keep the scale effect visible and avoid a flat monochrome appearance.
The model was built from the Italeri 0189 F-117A Nighthawk kit in 1:72 scale. The aftermarket decal sheet Caracal Models CD72099 – F-117A Stealth Fighter was used as the main source for low-visibility markings, unit badges and stencils. Since the sheet does not provide a complete ready-made Aviano 1996 option for 85-0832, the markings were adapted and composed to represent the chosen aircraft as closely as possible.
The finished scene is presented in a compact display case measuring approximately 30 × 20 × 15 cm. The aircraft is shown on an airfield apron with three 1:72 figures representing visitors at the Aviano Open Day. A printed background inspired by the Aviano skyline and mountains was added to give the model a strong sense of place. The model was completed as a personal gift for Fabio, a friend.
The project originally considered another F-117A subject, 82-0803 “Unexpected Guest”, but the photographic research for the Aviano 1996 aircraft led to the corrected subject: 85-0832 / HO, connected with the 8th Fighter Squadron / 49th Fighter Wing.
The individual aircraft 85-0832 is listed as F-117A number 832, nickname “Once Bitten”. It first flew on 10 December 1987, flew 30 combat missions during Operation Desert Storm with the 416th TFS, and later flew 17 combat missionsduring Operation Allied Force while assigned to the 9th EFS from Spangdahlem. The Aviano 1996 model, however, represents the earlier public display appearance connected with the 8th FS “Black Sheep” markings.

AM-LW-001 — Messerschmitt Bf 109 G-6/R6 “Yellow 17”
Scale: 1:72
Subject: Messerschmitt Bf 109 G-6/R6
Pilot: Oberleutnant Gerhard Stamp
Unit: 8./JG 300 / III. Gruppe JG 300
Location: Oldenburg, Germany
Period: September–October 1943
Operational context: “Wilde Sau” night fighter operations
Status: Completed model (2026)
Display concept: aircraft, pilot figure, airfield base, airfield accessories, printed background and descriptive label.
Historical and modelling note
This model represents the Bf 109 G-6/R6 “Yellow 17” associated with Oberleutnant Gerhard Stamp during JG 300 “Wilde Sau” operations in Germany in 1943.
The aircraft appears to have been a former JG 11 machine, later used by JG 300. Its camouflage is especially interesting because of the heavy overspray and the dark lower surfaces associated with night-fighter use.
The final display focuses not only on the aircraft markings, but also on the atmosphere of a late-1943 Luftwaffe night-fighter airfield. The model is presented as a compact scene, with the aircraft, pilot figure, airfield base, small accessories and descriptive label forming a single display.
Research notes
A more detailed research note may be added in the future.
