Radios: 5G and Beyond

The 5G is the next standard of wireless communication that will be able to satisfy the increasing demand of higher speeds, traffic and users. The basic requirements includes :

  • New carriers and bands

  • Full duplex (same frequency for RX and TX at the same time)

  • Massive MIMO (multiple RX-TX to exploit diverity and spatial multiplexing

  • ULP Low data rate modes (Bluetooth low energy (BLE) and Narrowband IoT)

In particolar we can distingueshed two main group of research:

Sub-6GHz Radios

Sub-6GHz radios works to frequency up to 6GHz, it is characterized by a lower speed than mmWave radios but it can reach higher distances.

Millimeter-Wave Radios

The mm-Wave technology uses frequencies between 30 to 300GHz providing high speed communications for short distances.
