The youth malnutrition crisis in the Republic of Sudan is mainly being caused by the ongoing civil war between the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), which began in 2023. The fighting has destroyed farms, markets, hospitals, and food supply systems, leaving millions without enough food or healthcare.
Children and young people are among the worst affected. Millions are suffering from acute malnutrition, especially in regions such as Darfur and Kordofan, where famine conditions and severe hunger have been reported. Many families survive on only one meal a day, while disease outbreaks and displacement continue to worsen the crisis.
International organizations such as the World Food Programme, UNICEF, and World Health Organization are trying to provide food aid, medical treatment, and nutrition support, but access is difficult because of ongoing violence and funding shortages.
