Michigan Lion Dance 501(c)(3) is a student-led nonprofit organization dedicated to sharing the tradition of lion dance while fostering connections across diverse communities. Since 1983, our team has provided students with opportunities to engage in cultural education, performance, and leadership, using lion dance as a way to promote cross-cultural understanding.
We feature youth as both performers and cultural ambassadors, guided by experienced mentors and dedicated volunteers. Through intergenerational collaboration, our programs aim to celebrate and preserve cultural heritage, ensuring that the tradition of lion dance continues to thrive.

From cultural festivals to community outreach, the Michigan Lion Dance Team has grown into a recognized student-led organization. Below are some of the milestones that highlight our impact:
Hosted the Taiwanese-American Lunar New Year Festival at the DIA
Over 1,000 attendees enjoyed an exciting performance, Hakka tea harvest dance, and cultural stations! Our team worked incredibly hard to make this event a success.
Performed at the 2024 Washington DC Dragon Boat Festival
We celebrated Taiwan-U.S. friendship through our lion and dragon dance performances, alongside multicultural exhibitions.
Partnerships with Brilliant Detroit and Forgotten Harvest
We've held donation drives, volunteered at read-alouds, and more! Last winter, we donated winter clothing and toys.
Performed at the Michigan Governor’s Lunar New Year Festival
We represented Taiwanese cultural heritage at a state-level celebration!
