This project was a joy to create, inspired by the many adult students who shared how challenging it was to support their children’s learning at home. As a parent who homeschooled all four of my children, I drew from personal experience and compiled videos of engaging activities that brought learning to life for us over the years. My goal was to provide practical, fun, and meaningful resources to help families navigate at-home education together.

My husband and I volunteered for a local Jail fundraiser. We also purchased a table to help support the staff.
An event that my daughter helped coordinate. She led the evening with the script and revealed our roles, along with costume suggestions, and questions, while I transformed our home into a 1920s speakeasy with decor and food. It was a fun evening!
For the last five years we have hosted a community pig roast. It consists of roasting a pig in an outdoor fire pit, camping, entertainment, and of course, a lot of great food. We usually have a great attendance and it's growing each year. This is a fun community event.
One way to help promote learning is to create an energetic and welcoming space that inspires the individual to explore self-paced learning. If someone feels comfortable, they are more likely to stay engaged in the learning process.
The opposite wall featured student progress with each student signing the wall in chalk, as they passed each test. (Not shown to protect info)
The OCTC Bridges Summer Program for our ESL students helped parents to engage with their children through various learning activities, games, and group projects. It was a 6 week program that had nearly 100 attendees.
One of the limitations was the parents with non school age little ones. Recognizing this need, I created, implemented, and coordinated a program for the staff to utilize with the children.
This was an amazing experience for me!
After a few years of working at Owensboro Community and Technical College, I was asked to coordinate the annual GED graduation ceremony. It consisted of staff, graduates, photo booths, diplomas, and cake. These are just a few pics of some of us being silly.
One of my favorite opportunities was volunteering with our local Civil Air Patrol with my youngest son. I helped coordinate many events during my years there, including: camping events, air show booths, trainings, meetings, special events, and ceremonies. It was an honor to have served as the public affairs officer.
One of the community outreaches that I helped coordinate was a GED Alumni Banquet. We wanted to connect our former students with the community leaders. We had many GED graduates attend, as well as the president of OCTC, and local representatives. The night included guest speakers, give aways, and lots of great food. We had a local food truck cater our meal.
We value our learners and we enjoyed this opportunity to celebrate them and enjoy some good food!
Our community had a community celebration on the longest day of the year. We participated by having a booth with a high jump game to symbolize "Reaching High to Obtain Your Goals". It was a lot of fun. Our youngest son volunteered to help demonstrate the game.
Upon moving to a new community, we became involved in reaching out to our community. We helped the Ohio County Homemaker's clubs make quilts to give away.
While employed as a part-time tour guide at Waveland State Historic Site, I coordinated a living history event on the grounds. It included many reenactors, food volunteers, and participants from the county and local school systems. I implemented a rotating plan to ensure that all participants got to see all the learning groups that were spread out over the grounds. Thanks to all involved, it was a huge success!
Our family got to participate in the Women on the Frontier at Fort Boonesborough. We helped demonstrate how people lived inside the fort. We also enjoyed learning to make our own period clothing.
My husband and I wrote a summer camp script that a local church used for its vacation Bible school event. We were asked to coordinate the week-long event. The premise of the script/play was based on the idea that we all have gifts and talents that we can use to help others.
