Encased in Ink
2022
In this work, my connections to terrain and natural objects are paired with manifestations of
emotion. This is an exploration of nature using my body to connect my sense of self and
memories and using nature as a modicum of modesty. Some of these places and things have changed and some remain, and in my life,
I have loved them all.
Our dreams consist of inexperienced memories that can hold unrealized nostalgia. This is an expression of my memories lived or unlived. Is a memory of a dream a lived experience?
The absence of color in this work allows the dream-like state to take hold in the viewer's eyes. I
select a scene or aspect of nature and pose my body through the energy of the memory. I use
digital tools to weave the two images together and create an intertwined effect.
I am encasing my body in the printed image and caging myself to this stationary existence to share my composition.
