Course Content

• Not only know all 250 works and their artist/date/medium, but know the period and movement.

• Create a timeline of all the works and visualise it through there. (This makes comparison and visualisation easier).

Attribution

•  Know attributive features of every artist/culture.

•  For example: Gauguin's skin tones and usage of colour, Mehretu's dynamic sense of movement in abstract forms, or features of Hellenistic Greek marble sculptures.

Dates

•  Remember, you do not need to know the exact date on each specific work, but be familiar with the timeframe.

• If the object is very ancient, you have a 1000 year window. 

• If the object has a more secure yet "old" date, you have a 100 year window.

•  If the object is from the middle ages to the 20th century, you have a 50-year spread.

• If the object is from the 20th to the 21st centuries, you have a 10 year window.
