I picked this chest because I wanted something with a lot of visual interest. I dropped the weird thing in the middle and moved the clasps closer to the center because I could not figure out what it was supposed to be.
Here are some stills of the chest without materials applied. Neglecting the skulls and clasps, it took me under an hour to model this chest. I sculpted the chest's profile from a circle primitive, and extruded it a few times to give it volume. Then, I extruded some of the face loops along normals to create the trim.
I went to great lengths to set up the materials to make it so the chest could tarnish over the course of the animation. The node group is for 2 "Greater Than" nodes which are used to change the materials in both the lid and the chest from blue and gold to brown.
Suzanne is one of the Blender primitives. She is usually used to test materials, but I couldn't turn down an opportunity to put her in a project! I used geometry nodes to distribute her throughout a volume so the chest could be overflowing with her.
