In my role with Apple, I led a talented junior team dedicated to crafting detailed 3D building models for Apple Maps. Our initial focus was on creating highly accurate, photorealistic representations of real-world structures to enhance Apple Maps’ visual experience and provide users with a more immersive, intuitive navigation tool. This involved meticulous attention to architectural detail, geographic accuracy, and visual consistency, ensuring that each building contributed to a cohesive digital environment.
As the project evolved, our work shifted towards designing stylized buildings for the next generation of Apple Maps. This phase emphasized a clean, artistic approach that balanced aesthetic appeal with clarity for users. The challenge was to capture the unique essence of each structure while streamlining the visual language to align with Apple’s design philosophy. Working on this new stylized approach allowed us to push creative boundaries and explore innovative ways to make complex cityscapes more engaging and accessible.
This experience was both a technical and creative journey, bringing together precision in 3D modeling with a refined, minimalist style that enhances user interaction. Leading the team through these transformations was an exciting challenge, contributing to a groundbreaking update that reflects Apple’s commitment to delivering high-quality, user-centered design across its platforms.
