Lean manufacturing is a systematic approach to minimizing waste within a manufacturing process. These principles are the principles of the Toyota Production System (TPS) and have been widely adopted by companies to help improve efficiency and effectiveness within their manufacturing process. The core principles and practices of lean manufacturing are; value, value stream, flow, pull, and perfection. In today's essay, I will be focusing on two of these principles.
The first principle I will be talking about is “value”, which emphasizes the importance of understanding what is most important to the client. Lean manufacturing aims to enhance the value delivered to the client by eliminating non-value-added activities. Although some non-value activities inadvertently add value to the product. At my company on the process, we take time to do although it is non-value added. Is cleaning off units before shipping them out to the clients. Showing we take value in our product so that it arrives to the client clean and in good condition. One way to identify value is for manufacturers to engage with customers to understand their needs and preferences, ensuring that every step in the production process contributes to creating a product that meets expectations.
The next principle I will be going over is “flow”, this principle focuses on ensuring that the production process is smooth and uninterrupted. To maintain an uninterrupted flow workstation can be organized and placed in proper places. Along with minimizing the movement of employees and materials in between processes to help minimize time lost in between processes. Techniques such as cellular manufacturing, where workstations are arranged in a sequence that supports a smooth flow of materials, and just-in-time (JIT) production, where materials are delivered exactly when needed, are commonly used to achieve continuous flow.
In conclusion, lean manufacturing is a process approach that seeks to help maximize value and minimize waste through nun value added process. Without the implementation of the lean manufacturing process, production wouldn't go smoothly. These principles were implemented to combat the process from nun value and time-wasting work, turning it into positive production time.
