I sharpen almost anything and I use the highest quality belts, disks, and hand tools made in order of diamond particles, cork, and polishing compounds. My objective is usually quality over efficiency. I am only just beginning my work and have intentions of growing into a business that can handle carpentry and saw mill blades. Currently, I sharpen and repair antique or specialized blades, fabric shears, hair cutting shears, kitchen cutlery, and garden tools. My work is mostly free-hand and artistic, while most of my competitors in the area focus on more routine and conventional sharpening. Please ask for current rates. As of May, 2023, my rates were fifty cents per inch of blade or scissors length, plus a tip determined by artistic value and gratitude of the customer. This is effectively very close to competition prices for simple kitchen knives without tips.
Several advantages I have to deliver excellent service are:
Water-cooled belts cut cleaner and prevent overheating the metal/ceramic blades. Excess heat would cause increased chipping with ceramics and alteration of the metal alloys, usually softening metal so it won't hold it's edge.
NASA quality, industrial, diamond compound belts that have no joints and deliver smooth, even grinding.
Cool temperature, metal conditioning, non-toxic Flitz polish removes fine metal particulates, and creates a lasting beautiful shine that is easier to clean. Even when people wash their knives after sharpening them at home, there is often a small amount of metal dust not quite freed from the microscopic texture of the newly sharpened metal. Flitz safely removes this potential health hazard and additionally creates a smoother surface that cuts with less resistance through materials.
What I hope to improve:
Larger, sturdier equipment, capable of handling the toughest large blades. Progress ~10%.
Better drop-off and pick-up system. Currently, you call and we arrange it, or you just come to my home.
An imperceptibly cone shaped flat grinder for hair clippers. I can do flat, but some high end sharpening equipment does slightly better and I can usually make what is outside my hobby budget.
Add a titanium-nitride sputtering chamber to my tools, for superior long-lasting cutting edges. Just imagine a metal or bone cutting kitchen knife or a wire cutter that actually survives 16-guage wire!
