Year-end Reflection

5/20/2022

This school year I learned how important building connections and bonds in the classroom is. I have had more connections in the classroom than I ever had from my previous school years. I have also learned that doing my best in taking any opportunity given to me is worth it. As much as I could, I volunteered for things. However, I was not able to keep them consistent.

Some of the most memorable moments from this year would be our icebreakers. It kinda let me get to know my class a bit more. If it weren't for those icebreakers, I may have not been able to open up about things in the classroom. I feel more comfortable and more determined to keep it up and complete the course. The professional dress days we've had this year have also been a great highlight for me, because I felt more confident.

If I were to redo the school year, I would have taken as many of the opportunities I turned down. I would have started earlier on adding to my resume. I also would have tried to be a bit more open with icebreaker answers and sparked more conversations in the classroom. Maybe even be myself a bit more in the classroom rather than keeping such a quiet persona.

I would rate my efforts with a 4. I was successful in keeping a somewhat consistent attendance score. Along with doing what I needed to do in order to pass and a bit more by participating in cleanups. Although I did let my own mental health get in the way of my work. It was my error, because what I should have done was keep both of those separate in results of keeping my priorities at balance.

Reaction to Charisma article

4/8/2022

We discussed the articles eight ways we can build our charisma. Four to be add-on's by Mr. Jerry Roberts. The qualities we discussed were to be composed; be decisive; be credible; be concise; be courageous; be accountable; be there; and to be generous. To be charismatic is to act as a leader, not a boss, or someone others can look to for their example. Charismatic people can get a crowd talking or can be the energy in a room. Besides being able to communicate, one who is charismatic displays responsibility.

I can personally apply being composed. I can easily lose it when I am pushed to a limit. I'd want to be able to control my emotions to get things done rather let it get the best of me. I can work on it by being patient with my loved ones first and giving them time to gather their thoughts after a misunderstanding or an argument. Deep breaths and realistic positive thoughts would be able to help me keep my cool and stay composed. I can also work on being decisive to take initiative in my relationships. Besides personal relationships I can also use it in my band to further our progress.

Classroom Environment Reflection

4/6/2022

In this classroom, I feel accepted and open with my struggles. I don't feel judged nor do I feel out of place when I'm in this class. We all support and help each other with our work to get things done. Even with the ratio with girls and boys being uneven, we're able to build a bond if its one or more of our classmates being absent. We're still opening up and revealing more about ourselves, because there is always so much to learn from just one person. The conversations we've had have built our bond and we're open to the ideas of personal questions and crying in front of each other. Some things I don't feel like sharing yet, or at all. We don't push it. Instead, we share what we want to share in our comfortable zone until we are ready.

We help each other and our teacher by cleaning the classroom together. Besides the atmosphere, the physical environment affects us as well. During online school, the atmosphere was my room which at the time felt lazy and unproductive because it wasn't always cleaned. I believe the cleaner the classroom, the cleaner the mind, the cleaner the understanding, and the cleaner our lessons. We're able to focus on the lesson even though it is 7 in the morning. Some things may be left a bit dirty, because some of us might not be used to cleaning all the time. We work with what we have and what we're able to do. Either way it is clean enough to where we are able to focus on the task at hand. Along with having each other spot the spots we miss.

In the beginning of the school year(2021). I was shy and felt so out of place. At one point I had the thought of dropping the class because of it. The longer I stayed the more I've noticed how this class has helped me in communicating and opening up. The reason I enrolled was for that reason. I have become more open about my struggles and I am not afraid to share them.

Mr.Marvin Ocampo's Presentation

2/21/2022

I learned that I can balance a life as a college student and as a store manager. As I learned from Mr.Marvin, you can control your own schedule to fit to your own personal hobbies or agenda. It is possible to accomplish this with dedication to your education and determination to your goals. I can still be able to continue my personal hobbies and interests with a position such as Mr.Marvins if I take all the opportunities I am given by my GCC instructor.

I was shocked to find out how young he was as a store manager telling workers, older than he is, what to do. I found it inspiring and just as he said, "empowering for young ones to be the future". When he explained my question about time management, I was impressed with how fast he answered. He answered very quickly and got straight to the point. He's a great role model for us students in this GCC course to answer questions right on the bat and just be a good communicator.

Bed Making Activity

2/15/2022

Our class learned how to properly make a bed. If any of us are to ever work in housekeeping, we have knowledge of the step by step process of making the bed. I learned how to properly make a bed with my classmates which built my teamwork skills. I had the role as the anchor, the one who held the bed frame down, and I was able to observe my classmates techniques. Once it was my turn to make the bed, I had enough knowledge to explain the steps myself.

I felt a bit sleepy during the bed making process. The sheets were so soft and I hadn't had much sleep the past week. However, I was still able to learn from pushing myself to understand the lesson. I had the chance to observe my classmates and learn from their trial and error. That allowed me to understand the lesson a lot more and make less errors as they made. I had an advantage point as being the anchor for the first three teams.

Ms. Oliveros' Presentation

10/29/2021

From Ms.Oliveros' presentation, she went over opportunities we have from this GCC course. If we earn 180 hours of work experience with a B or higher, we would earn a Certificate of Mastery after completing the hours. The work experience also makes up for an elective credit. Along with the differences between the certificates, we were presented opportunities for after high school. Programs such as Reach for College, Dual Enrollment, Clymer Program, and NTHS (National Technical Honor Society) were ones she covered.

I felt comfortable during her presentation and I feel as though I can reach out to her about my decisions for this course. I enjoyed her use of examples. She used us, her audience, to explain different situations. I was most attentive and alarmed especially when she called on me. Her interaction with us made the presentation flow smoothly. However, not many questions were asked from us students, so I'd say we have more communication skills to work on.
