Election Process

How to run for Student Council:

  • For freshmen, nomination papers will be released in September, and for all other grades nomination papers will be released the Spring before whichever year you are running for. So, if you are running as a freshman, papers will be available sometime in September. Say you want to run Sophomore year too, instead of releasing papers that September, elections will take place the Spring of your freshmen year, and at the beginning of your Sophomore year you will already be a member of the council.

  • The nomination paper includes:

        • 20 signatures from your classmates

        • A digital poster that will be sent out to the school via email (suggestions: your name, a photo of you, why you would be a good representative, a slogan, etc. Examples of posters)

        • Answering 2 questions thoughtfully:

              • Why you want to join Student Council

              • Ideas you have for the Student Council (in regards to events, fundraisers, spirit days, communication with the school, etc.)

  • Shortly after nomination papers are due, voting will take place.

        • Only students from your grade may vote in your class election, and 8 representatives will be elected.

IF YOU DO NOT GET ELECTED IN THE GENERAL ELECTION, DO NOT PANIC!

  • If you run in the general election and are not elected, you may run as a walk-on!

  • 2-6 walk-ons per grade will be elected

  • The walk-on process includes:

        • The completion of a more thorough application (through Google forms)

        • Your responses will be read anonymously, and those with stellar applications will be chosen to be interviewed

        • The interview will typically be with Ms. Safer and another teacher, or with members of the Executive Board

  • After your interview, Student Council will contact you and let you know if you were chosen to be a new member

Good luck, and we can't wait to see you on the student council next year!!
