STEAM Scholars
Mission Statement:
The STEAM Scholars at Millis High will experience a personalized educational pathway that will provide them with the opportunity to deepen their knowledge and skills in the STEAM fields so as to pursue higher education goals in the disciplines of Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics.
The staff and faculty of Millis High School will work with the STEAM scholars to foster an environment where the students participate in meaningful collaboration with each other and experts in the field. STEAM Scholars will generate questions and develop pathways to find solutions through the application of research, creativity, adaptability, innovation, and leadership.
There are three categories of requirements:
Academic Classes that must be completed before graduation
Projects
Extracurricular Activities that must be participated in Junior and Senior Year
Academic Courses:
4 years of Math
4 years of Science - including VHS
1 year of computer science
1 year of an engineering course
1 year of art
(A minimum GPA of 3.0 must be maintained in all of these classes)
Projects and Extracurriculars:
STEAM Society (75% attendance, meets during lunch)
Capstone Project (can either be senior project based in STEAM or an additional capstone project)
Junior Year Shadow with a presentation to STEAM Society
Must participate in at least one of the following activities (both Junior and Senior Year):
Hack-a-thon
Chem Club
Math Club
Robotics Club
Set design/lighting design/choreography for school or community Production
Music Tech
STEAM Camp over Summer
Destination Imagination
Another approved STEAM club or activity
Fish are Friends Club
