Dr. Sercan AYGÜN  - Post-Doc

(Dec 2021 - March 2024) Sercan received the B.Sc. degree in Electrical & Electronics Engineering and a double major in Computer Engineering from Eskisehir Osmangazi University, Eskisehir, Turkey, in 2013, the M.Sc. degree in Electronics Engineering from Istanbul Technical University in 2015, and a second M.Sc. degree in Computer Engineering from Anadolu University in 2016. Sercan received his Ph.D. degree in Electronics Engineering from the Istanbul Technical University in 2022. He joined our research group as a Post-Doc to work on Emerging Computing Technologies, including Stochastic Computing in Computer Vision and Machine Learning, and Hyperdimensional Computing. Sercan was selected as a Machine Learning and Systems Rising Star in May 2023 and received the Best Scientific Research Award of ACM SIGBED Student Research Competition (SRC) in 2022. Sercan accepted a tenure-track Assistant Professor position at CMIX, UL Lafayette, beginning  Spring of 2024.

Mohsen Riahi Alam - PhD Student

(May 2019 - present) Mohsen received the B.Sc. degree in Computer Engineering from Shiraz University, Shiraz, Iran, in 2011, and the M.Sc. degree in Computer Architecture from the University of Tehran, Tehran, Iran, in 2014. He was a Research Assistant with the Silicon Intelligence and VLSI Signal Processing Laboratory, University of Tehran from 2014 to 2016. Mohsen's research interests include in-memory computation, stochastic computing, low power and energy-efficient VLSI design, and embedded systems. Mohsen was selected as a DAC Young Fellow in DAC 2023.  

Mehran Shoushtari Moghadam - PhD Student

(Sep 2022 - present) Mehran received the B.Sc. degree in Computer Engineering - Hardware with Rank 1 from University of Isfahan, Iran, in 2010 and the M.Sc. degree in  Computer Engineering - Computer Architecture from the  University of Isfahan, Iran, in 2016. Mehran's research interests include Hyperdimensional Computing, Computer Architecture, Wireless Networks,  and Signal Processing. Mehran was selected as a DAC Young Fellow in DAC 2024.  

Amir Hossein Jalilvand  - PhD Student

(Sep 2019 - present) Amir Hossein received the B.Sc. degree in Computer Engineering - Information Technology from Bu Ali Sina University, Hamedan, Iran, in 2017, and the M.Sc. degree in Computer Engineering - Computer Architecture from Iran University of Science and Technology, Tehran, Iran. Amir Hossein's research interests include Stochastic Computing, Unary Computing, Computer Architecture, and Fuzzy Logic. 

Seyedeh Newsha Estiri  - PhD Student

(Dec 2021 - present) Newsha received the B.Sc. degree in Computer Engineering - Hardware System Design from Iran University of Science and Technology, Tehran, Iran, in 2020. Her research interests include Stochastic computing,  Machine Learning Application and Hardware, Computer Architecture. Newsha was selected as a DAC Young Fellow in DAC 2022.

Faeze Sadat Banitaba  - PhD Student

(Jan 2022 - present) Faeze received the B.Sc. degree in Computer Engineering - Hardware from Shahid Beheshti University, Tehran, Iran, in 2013, and the M.Sc. degree in Computer Architecture from the University of Tehran in 2017. Faeze was selected as a DAC Young Fellow in DAC 2023.  

Venkata SivaSai Allu  - Master's Student

(August 2023 - Present) Venkata is a dedicated Master's student in Informatics at the University of Louisiana, Lafayette. He brings a diverse academic and professional background to our group. He completed his undergraduate studies in Electronics and Communication Engineering at RGUKT-Srikakulam, India. He gained valuable experience during his two years as a Digital Specialist Engineer at Infosys Limited, where he honed his full-stack development skills. Proficient in Python, he also possess a strong foundation in Machine Learning and VLSI. With a passion for technology and a commitment to innovation, he is driven to contribute to cutting-edge research and development in the realm of VLSI and beyond.

Jonas I Schmidt  - Undergraduate Student

(January 2023 - Present) Jonas is an undergraduate senior pursuing a B.Sc. in Computer Science and double major in Mathematics, with a minor in Psychology at The University of Louisiana at Lafayette. He is the chair of ULL's ACM-CSE student chapter. Jonas joined our lab in January and has since contributed to the lab in the area of Hyperdimensional Computing. Jonas received the Louisiana Space and Sea Grant Opportunity (LaSSO) Award for his research on emerging computing technologies in September 2023.

Austin J Bryant  - Undergraduate Student

(September 2023 - Present) Austin is an undergrad finishing his B.Sc in Computer Science. He has previously worked on a DARPA and an Airforce funded project that focused on security mechanisms to prevent side-channel attacks and dynamic byte-taint analysis for reverse engineering binary executables, respectively. His current work is on the optimization of large language models for computationally restricted edge devices.

Emilien J Meyer  - Undergraduate Student

(October 2023 - Present) Emilien is an undergraduate student finishing his B.Sc. in Electrical Engineering with a concentration in Computer Engineering and a minor in Computer Science.  He is a member of the IEEE Student Branch at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette.  Since joining the lab in October, he has contributed to the area of efficient data processing in resource-constrained devices.

Sina Asadi  - PhD Student

(Jan 2019 - April 2023) Sina received the B.Sc. degree in Computer Engineering from Amirkabir University of Technology, Tehran, Iran, in 2014, and the M.Sc. degree in Computer Architecture from Sharif University of Technology, Tehran, Iran, in 2016. Sina's research interests include Approximate and Stochastic Computing, Fault-Tolerant System Design, Machine learning and intelligent systems, Computer Architecture, and Electronic Circuits. Sina was selected as a DAC Young Fellow in DAC 2020.  He successfully defended his Ph.D. dissertation on "Energy Efficient Stochastic Computing with Low-Discrepancy Sequences" in April 2023. Sina is now an Instructor at the ECE Department at UL Lafayette.

Prasanna Kawatkar  - PhD Student

(Sep 2021 - Dec 2022) Prasanna received the B.Sc. degree in Electronics and Telecommunication from Mumbai University in 2008 and the M.Sc. degree in  Electronics and Telecommunication from University of Louisiana at Lafayette. Prasanna's research interests include In-Memory Computing and Emerging Computing Technologies.

Peter Schober  - Research Scholar and Master Student

(September 2019 - May 2021) Peter received his B.Sc. degree in Electronics and Information Technology from Johannes Keppler University, Linz, Austria, in 2017. He was a Visiting Research Scholar in our research group from Sep 2019 to Dec 2019. He received his Master's degree in Embedded Systems at the TU - University of Technology, Vienna, Austria. Peter's Master's thesis was on  Stochastic Computing and its Application to Sound Source Localization.  He continued and completed his project with us remotely. Peter is now an FPGA designer at ITK Engineering in Vienna.

Chinmaya Reddy Anagandula  - Master Student

Chinmaya was a Master's student in the School of Computing and Informatics. His Master's project was on Energy Efficient Weather Prediction Neural Networks with Stochastic Computing.

Jacob Comeaux  - Master Student

(Aug 2020 - Dec 2021)

Jacob received his Bachelor in Computer Science from the University of Louisiana in 2020. He started his Master's in Computer Engineering in Fall 2020. Jacob completed his Master's project on bilinear interpolation using stochastic computing in our group.

Boisy Pitre - PhD Candidate

Boisy received his Bachelor and Master of Science in Computer Science from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. He has worked in the software industry since 1992, focusing on embedded, real-time and mobile computing.
