Meets
How do I know what race my child is running in?
The coaches will announce which race each person is racing during practice and this information will be available on Hello Teams.
Will I get a map of the course before the meet?
Yes, all maps of the course and what is allowed to be brought onto the course will be available in Hello Teams.
What distances do the kids race?
For both high school boys and girls a 5k or 3.1 miles is the standard. For middle schoolers a 3k or a 2 mile race, excluding conference and section races.
What should my child bring to meets?
Bring their uniform jersey and black bottoms, running shoes (Spikes are NOT necessary to race but more seasoned runners may opt to race in them). Make sure to bring adequate food, water, and layers as the weather can change quickly, and gifts for their buddies!
Does my kid have to ride the bus to and from the meets?
Yes, it is expected that your child rides the bus to and from meets. However, exceptions may be made with prior communication with the coaches.
Does my child get a uniform?
Yes, your child will receive a jersey and shorts at the beginning of the season. All runners are required to wear their uniform jersey and black bottoms at all meets.
Practice
What are captains practices and should my child attend them?
Captains practice are optional summer training runs before the season starts. This means no coaches are present and it is organized by our captains. Attendance is not required, but it helps ease the transition back into the fall season.
What should my child bring to practice?
Please wear athletic clothing and bring running shoes and water. A snack for before practice is also recommended.
Should my child be attending Saturday practices and/or weekday morning lifts?
Both Saturday morning practices and the midweek morning lift are limited to our 9th - 12th grade athletes. While they are optional, varsity athletes or those who strive to compete on the varsity roster, are expected to attend.
My child is feeling an ache or pain, should they attend practice?
While some aches are normal, your athlete should not feel pain while running. If concerned about injury, please contact the coaches. The athletic trainer at Maple Grove Senior High School is also available to all of our athletes.
How will my middle schooler get to the weekday practices?
For middle schoolers, please have them take the activities buses to Maple Grove Senior High School. Middle school practices will also start slightly later than the high schoolers to allow them time to get to practice.
How do I find out get updates about the meets, practices, events, etc?
To find updates of meets and other events please use Hello Teams and join the Maple Grove Cross Country group.
How does my child know when/what to run for summer practices?
