The Music Graduate Students’ Society (MGSS) is a student-run group that represents all graduate students at McGill University‘s Schulich School of Music

MGSS organizes activities throughout the year, including a fall orientation, end of term parties, general assemblies, the annual McGill Music Graduate Symposium, Trivia Nights, and more! For more details on upcoming events, please check out the events page or visit us on Facebook and Instagram.

MGSS also advocates for grad students’ needs and interests within the Schulich School of Music. There are MGSS representatives for each department (research and performance), area (strings, music theory, etc.), and committee (library, IT, etc.). Please feel free to voice your ideas, questions, and concerns to any MGSS representative. Visit here for a list of current MGSS leaders and representatives. If you would like to fill a vacant position, get in touch with us by email or social media.

MGSS is a subsidiary of McGill’s Post-Graduate Students’ Society. Our funding comes from graduate student fees.

MGSS Traditional Territory Acknowledgement Statement (Adopted 4 December 2015)

“We acknowledge that we are meeting on the traditional land of the Kanien’kehá:ka, which has also been a place of gathering for other Indigenous peoples, including other members of the Haudenosaunee confederacy and Anishinaabe communities. MGSS honours and respects these diverse indigenous peoples, and recognizes that our presence on this land is but one outcome of an ongoing colonial legacy. We reflect upon the impact of this heritage on our presence here today, and make this statement as a first step in interrogating the diverse effects of these seldom-acknowledged colonial histories.”
