On Friday March 20th MGLVA students, staff and staff from First Financial Plus Credit Union participated in the Reality store
After participating in the Reality Store, I can say it was a much more intense and eye-opening experience than I expected. What stood out the most was how stressful it felt trying to balance everything. It made me realize how much planning and responsibility goes into adult life. It also showed me how important it is to have a good job and to think seriously about my future career, since income makes a big difference in the kind of lifestyle you can afford.
Overall, the Reality Store was a valuable experience. It helped me understand real-world financial challenges in a way that a normal classroom lesson couldn’t. After going through it, I feel more aware of how important budgeting, saving, and smart decision-making are for my future.
Special thanks to First Financial Plus Credit Union of Flint MI. for hosting us and creating a great event for our students.
On February 18th, we took a group of students to the Capital Area Humane Society for a meaningful service-learning experience. On Saturday, February 14th, MGLVA students and their families participated in a land maintenance clean-up at the Chippewa Nature Center in Midland. Throughout the day, students took part in vegetation management, tree care, and drainage and erosion control efforts to help maintain and protect the natural landscape.
In addition to improving the grounds, students engaged in wildlife conservation activities. Each student built a nesting box for the Eastern Bluebird. Once in decline due to habitat loss and competition from invasive species, the Eastern Bluebird has made a remarkable recovery thanks to widespread nest box programs and habitat restoration efforts.
It was a meaningful day of service, learning, and environmental stewardship — and a fun experience for everyone involved.
